A car explosion in central Delhi on Monday evening has killed 12 people and injured more than 30, marking the city's most significant security incident in over a decade. The blast happened near the Red Fort, a symbol of national power.

The investigation, now led by India's federal anti-terror agency (NIA), is examining a potential connection to a separate anti-terror operation earlier that day. Hours before the blast, police in Jammu and Kashmir arrested seven individuals, including two doctors, and seized assault rifles and a large quantity of bomb-making material.

Sources familiar with the probe say investigators are looking into whether the driver of the exploded car was a doctor and a colleague of one of the arrested men. While hundreds were detained for questioning in Jammu and Kashmir following the blast, most have been released. No arrests have yet been made in connection with the Delhi explosion itself as the investigation continues.
